Every Summer we get this special gift for a few nights -

the big and shining beautiful flowers of the queen of the

night, one of the many cactuses of our garden. Each flower

lasts only for one night, but on some nights you can count

in one place dozens of theses magnificent flowers.

Delonix in bloom - הצאלונים פורחים

הסימן המובהק לפרוץ הקיץ הוא, כמובן, רחש המזגנים... אבל לחובבי הגן

אלה הצאלונים המכריזים על תחילתו של הקיץ הארוך שלנו. למרות גילם

המבוגר והפגיעות הנוצרות בעצים, שענפים ראשיים שלהם קרסו ונשברו

הם עדיין מייפים את הקיבוץ בפריחה אדומה, שאין לה מתחרה, למרות

שיש בגן ספטודאות, עצי הלהבה, הפורחות גם הן באדום יפהפה. צולם בבית ההארחה

This is the sign that the Summer has started. Our Summer is

extremely hot, and the Delonix trees (called also Poentianas)

love it. When temperatures start to climb high - these trees

start growing their new leaves, create heavy shade, and bloom

for all the Summer in fire-red. The gardeners don't plant them

any more, since the old trees' branches tend to break and fall in

storms, and the damaged trees need a lot of care.

Dead Sea Eastern shore - חופו הירדני של ים המלח

תמונה שצילמה גונדי שחל מחופו המזרחי, הירדני, של ים המלח. נסיגת

הים ניכרת, כמובן, גם בצד השני. תופעת הבולענים מצומצמת יותר, מצוקי

אבן-החול הזקופים יוצרים נופים מעט שונים, ובכלל - יש המון מה לראות

of the Dead Sea, the Jordanian side. The landscapes there

are different: sandstone cliffs, canyons with plenty of running

water, lots of date palms, less sinkholes... The loss of water

is, of course the same on the other side, and salt that accumulates

on the exposed rocks creates beautiful effects.

Tristram Grackle - טריסטרמית

הטריסטרמית, אחת מהציפורים היפהפיות המאכלסות בכמויות מרשימות

את מרחבי נווה המדבר של עין-גדי. שמן העממי 'זרזיר ים-המלח' מעיד על

השייכות האזורית שלהן, ולמעשה ניתן למוצאן גם בסיני ובמדבריות אחרים

באזורנו. בעין-גדי הן מאד ידידותיות, ואינן חוששות לאכול מכף ידך. ציוצי

הטריסטרמיות ופיסת הזהב בקצות כנפיהן השחורות מקלות מאד על זיהוין

The Tristram Grackle is named after Henry Baker Tristram,

a British scientist who travelled and wrote a lot about the nature

of the Dead Sea region. It is a very friendly bird, that will eat from

your hand, if you are patient enough. You can identify it easily by

the sweet sounds it makes, and by the golden patch at the tip of its
