The Capers in Nachal Arugot are loaded with fruit

in the early Summer. The more common use of Capers

is pickling of the flower buds, but the same can be done

with the fruit.

Selenicereus
This is one of our Summer special delights - the bloomong

of the Queen of the Night. There are few kinds of cactus

plants that got this common name. The Selenicereus is, no

doubt, one of the most impressive queens. All year long

this plant look quite miserable, even as if it suffers from

the heat or drought, but when time come, this green-grey

simple crawling cactus prodices these enormous white

flowers that bloom for only one night each. Still - if you

happen to see a hundred of these flowers together - you

will noy forget it!

השנה, בגלל החורף היבש, לא היה מרעה טבעי בכמות מספקת ברמת המדבר

נקבות היעלים, שבדרך כלל עולות באביב להמליט את הגדיים, נשארו למטה

יש עדויות להתמעטות אוכלוסיית היעלים בעין-גדי

יתכן שציד לא חוקי על ידי פלסטינאים ברמת המדבר תורם לעובדה מצערת זו

This year, because of lack of rains, there wasn't much to graze

in the Desert Plateaue. The female ibex, that usually climb up

to give birth and to stay there during Winter and Spring,

remained down by the oasis. Its eems that the number of Ibex

has decreased in the last years. One of the possible reasons

may be illegal hunting by the Palestinians from the Hebron

mountains.

Riki Shochat, who lives in her Date-Palm hut by the

ancient synagougue, makes interesting ceramics and

builds with the local mud. One of her new creations

is this oven, made for burning her ceramics.
