Retama raetam - a common bush of the desert plateau

is in full bloom now. It is one of the signs of the coming

Spring.

חבר, מנצלת את הזמן לשוטטות בין היובלים הקטנים יותר של השיטפון

הכביש, כדי לאפשר למכוניות לעבור

Shabbat February 18th. Floods in the Judean Desert canyons

and big tractors are working to push aside the rocks from the 

road, so cars will be able to cross. In the meanwhile - a group of

tourists spend their waiting time crossing by foot one of the small

side flows. The road from Ein-Gedi down south was blocked for

a few hours.

Anat Eshed is an artist from Motza, near Jerusalem. She creates

drawing and sculptures. A great part of her time in the last ten years 

Anat has dedicated to experiment in salt from the Dead Sea. The

technique is difficult, and sometimes even frustrating, but the results

are very impressing. Some of her salt works can be seen in the 

permanent exhibition in the visitor-center of 'Ahava' factory in

Tu Bishvat - ט"ו בשבט הגיע

כשבכל הארץ מכריזים פרחי השקדיה: ט"ו בשבט הגיע! אצלנו

בעין-גדי, השקד אינו חלק מתמונת הנוף שלנו, אבל שיח הרותם

עושה זאת לא פחות יפה, וריחו עולה, ומראהו חגיגי

Tu Bishvat, the new year of the trees, is celebrated this week

all over Israel, and the almond trees are in full blossom. Ein-Gedi

doesn't enjoy the presence of almond trees, but we have the

Rotem (Retama), native of the Judean desert, that reminds us

the white and fragrant flowers of the almonds.

A rainy day in Ein-Gedi is not common, and not

always I am available to take pictures of the fresh

clean and dripping plants of the garden. So here is

a set of pictures.

צפונה על רמת המדבר וירידה מהר אלעזר אל מרגלות המצדה. יום

Nahal Rahaf, south of Massada, has quite a short and impressing

canyon. This picture was taken from the exit of this canyon towards

the Dead Sea shore, on a hiking day of the junior high school.

Hanita Horesh, our school secretary for more than 25 years

is retiring. Her devotion and loyalty have become a kegend.
