Queens of the Night - מלכות הלילה

עם פרוץ החום הגדול מתעוררים הקקטוסים לחיים של פריחה - אמנם קצרה

אך מרשימה במיוחד. חלק מהם פורח רק בלילה - וללילה אחד בלבד. עם רדת

החשכה נפתחים פרחיהם הגדולים והלבנים, ומושכים אליהם המוני חרקים וצלמים

המתחרים על חסדיהם. עם בוקר הם נסגרים הפרחים ונובלים

Summer comes. The heat wakes up the Cactus plants for a short

but very impressive blooming. Some of them bloom only in the

night, and for one night only. When night falls, they open their

big white flowers which attract many insects and photographers.

ארבעה עצי באובב זוכים למלוא תשומת הלב של המבקרים בגן, שניים במרכז

הגן של המלון ושניים ליד חדר האוכל של חברי הקיבוץ. הם היותר גדולים, והם

נמצאים על מסלול הסיור בגן. לא הכל יודעים שיש בגן 25 עצי באובב, בגילים

ובגדלים שונים, מפוזרים בפינות שונות, חלקן לא כל כך נגישות לציבור. הבאובב

היפה הזה נמצא, ביחד עם עוד 2 חברים, מצפון לבריכת השחיה של המלון, מקום

בו מאד בקרוב הולך להיבנות מרכז הטיפולים והפינוקים החדש. לא ברור אם

יצליחו להעביר את שלושת העצים הגדולים האלה למקום אחר. אם לא - זה יהיה

מאד מצער

Visitors to the Botanical garden usually skip this lovely Baobab

tree, since it is not on the main route of the garden, and 4 other

Baobabs are bigger and make more impression. But it is a fact:

about 25 Baobab trees thrive in our garden, some in places which

most people almost never visit. This beatiful tree is located, together

with 2 brothers, north of the hotel's swimming pool, at a place where

very soon a new spa is goin to be built. We hope that it will be possible

to move these trees to another spot of the garden.

ובכן, זה לא קקטוס... האצבוע הזה, שמוצאו אפריקני (יש לו אחים בארץ), שייך

למעשה למשפחת האסקלפיים, כלומר - הוא קרוב של תפוח-סדום, למרות מראהו

הקקטוסי. הוא התביית בשמחה בגן הבוטני של הקיבוץ, ומתרבה משנה לשנה. פרחיו

בעלי צבע יוצא דופן (מזכיר את צבע פרחי הלוף) וריחו דוחה מאד אותנו, בני האדם

אולם הזבובים שמחים לבקר אותו ולסייע בהאבקה של פרחיו. פריחת האצבוע היא

Well, it is not a Cactus. This very strange plant is a relative of

our Sodom-Apple, and it comes from Africa. The flowers have

color and smell that attract flies, and make human visitors

stay a few meters away... The flies love it, and they visit the

flowers and help in thr pollination buisness. The blooming of

this Caralluma speciosa is one of the signs of the coming Summer.

Ibex in our garden - יעלים בבוסתן

קבוצה של כחמישה יעלים זכרים בוגרים חוזרת ומבקרת מדי יום בבוסתן שמתחת לביתנו

ליהנות מפרחי האקציה האפריקנית המכסים את הקרקע במרבד עשיר וטעים. השומר

בשער הקיבוץ - קצרה ידו מלהושיע. הם נכנסים למרות מחאותיו, וכבר יודעים את

הכיוון. החורף היבש כנראה הותיר מעט מדי מרעה טבעי מחוץ לתחומי הקיבוץ, והרעב

מכוון את צעדיהם

A group of 5 adult male Ibex visits the garden in the slope right

under our house in the Kibbutz. Hunger leads them to the carpet

of african Acacia flowers, where they stop to eat. They do not mind

the photographer. The guard at the Kibbutz gate is helpless - they

enter with no permission every day...

Zalman Digmi. The facilties provide opportunity for people

who need to spend some quality time together in a quiet
