תעשיית צבע האינדיגו התבססה בימי קדם גם על

צמח הניל המכסיף, שיובא לארץ בשלהי בית שני

מהודו. צמח זה, הזקוק לחום,  שרד בטבע 

במדבר יהודה, והוא מוכר כצמח נדיר מאד באזורנו.

יונית שמיר, חברת קיבוץ עין-גדי, מחדשת את

אומנות הצביעה באינדיגו, ומדי פעם היא מקיימת

סדנאות יצירה לאורחי המלון.

The Indigo dying industry was based in

ancient times here, in the Dead Sea basin

on the Nil (Indigophera) plant, that was

introduced to our country from India about

two thousand years ago. The plant survived 

.in the Judean desert, but is almost extinct
